A deep ruby color in the glass, our 2016 Rue Vineyard Zinfandel offers dark aromas of black cherry with savory notes of tobacco leaf. A richly layered palate exhibits brambly flavors of black raspberry and cassis with a hint of soft spice. The dusty, firm tannins and coating mouthfeel lead to a lingering finish.
Located in the Russian River Valley, the I 0-acre century-old Rue Vineyard is perfectly situated just off of Wood Road and meticulously dry-farmed by Bob and Carlene Rue. The soil is a sandy loam with a low pH that allows the planted ancient vines to produce small Zinfandel berries with concentrated flavors.
Winemaking is made easy by the small,
open-clustered, thick-skinned fruit. The grapes go through wild fermentation in open-top vats with hand punchdowns occurring twice a day, after which the must is basket pressed and barrel-aged IS months in French oak, 22% new. A small percentage of Alicante Bouschet added to the final blend brings forth herbal and pepper notes in this intense Zinfandel.
