This wine has been described by critics as dazzling with its silky richness and so delicious that you cant help but fall in love. Waves of raspberry and cherry pie lead to notes of ripe persimmon, mocha, and smoky oak with bright acidity, fine tannins, and outstanding balance.
Nestled in the Sonoma Coast hills southwest of Sebastopol, the Maboroshi Vineyard, Japanese for "whimsical dream", lies at 600 ft elevation, and is one of the first spots to clear from the morning fog as ridges to the west shelter the site from any lingering marine layer. Located off of Thorn Road, the fine Goldridge loam soils nurture the vines, and the Kisaichi family meticulously tends to them using sustainable methods. The grapes we source are planted to 3309 rootstock and are clones 667 and 115.
Whole berries were fermented in small open-top oak vats with hand punch downs before being basket pressed pressed to barrel for secondary fermentation on the lees. Aged for 14 months in 100% French oak barrels, some second-fill barrels were used to lend softness to the oak
characteristics. Only 375 cases of this limited-production wine were crafted.
