The 2017 vintage was marked by extreme conditions that reduced crop size, starting with abundant winter rainfall and mild spring weather, which led to vigorous vines. The growing season saw three heat spikes, including one over Labor Day weekend that kicked harvest into high gear.
Our 2017 Estate Chardonnay opens with seductive aromas of tangerine, orange blossom and baked apple crisp with a touch of honeysuckle. Full, rich flavors of Asian pear, mandarin orange and nutmeg spread across the palate. This is a full-bodied Chardonnay with a silky mouthfeel and bright acidity.

Our Old Wente Clone, Montrachet Clone and Clone 809 vineyard blocks provided the fruit for this wine. After whole cluster pressing, the juice underwent native yeast fermentation and lees stirring for 10 months. Extending the barrel aging time in French oak, 35% new, to 16 months increased the complexity and rich depth while still retaining the delicate fruit components of this elegant Chardonnay before bottling unfiltered.
